Local Attractions

There is plenty to explore in this part of the Costa Blanca. Along the coast to the north are the towns of Moraira, Denia and Javea, all with good beaches, while to the south are Altea with its famous and beautifully restored old town, and colourful Villajoyosa. Benidorm, with its many attractions, including the Terra Mitica theme park, is about 20 miles away.

A narrow gauge railway runs all along this coast from Alicante to Denia, with a station at Calpe, and this provides an enjoyable alternative to driving. If you do take the car, you only have to travel a few miles inland to leave all the coastal development and enter the 'real' Spain. In this mountainous region there are many unspoilt villages and some excellent walking. Calpe has a marvellous climate, with over 300 sunny days per year - even in December and January there are many bright, sunny days, and frost is virtually unknown. The sea gets warm enough for swimming in April (when it's about the same as Cornwall in August) and stays warm right through to late October.

Getting There

The easiest way to reach Calpe is to pre-book a hire car for pick-up at Alicante airport. It is then about an hour's easy drive to the apartment, along the A-7 autopista (motorway) to junction 64, then along the N-332 to Calpe. The apartment is easy to find as you don't have to go into the town centre - we provide full directions before you leave. There are details of car-free ways to get to the apartment – e.g. a coach transfer service – in our information sheets.

An alternative is to fly to Valencia airport, which is about 90 minutes drive to the north. It s also quite possible to take your own car, and this can be a good idea if you are coming for a longer winter let.You can either drive all the way down through France (Le Havre to Calpe is about 950 miles), or take a ferry to the northern Spanish ports of Bilbao (P&0) or Santander (Brittany Ferries). It s about 400 miles from either of these ports to Calpe.
